Cantlay rides hot streak

By RANDY YOUNOMAN, in 2009

When you're as hot as the weather, you have to keep playing. That seems to be the philosophy adopted by UCLA's Patrick Cantlay as he rides the wave of success in a summer he will always remember. Since overcoming the odds by qualifying for and playing in the U.S. Open as an amateur in June, Cantlay is continuing to capitalize on that momentum. Cantlay, 19, played in his fourth PGA Tour event last month, the RBC Canadian Open, on another sponsor's exemption that was offered after winning low-amateur honors at the U.S. Open and posting top-25 mishes in his next two tour events. In between, the former Servite High star captured the SCGA Amateur Championship at San Gabriel Country Club.
